Find Quality Emergency Dental Care in Ocean City, MD

Older couple smiling at beachIf you have a dental emergency, contact Delmarva Sedation Dentistry immediately! Even if it’s not during office hours, call us because our voicemail will give you information about how to reach one of our team members or Dr. Edward Dougherty right away here in Ocean City.

Some emergencies may actually require a trip to the ER. Generally, if there’s a lot of bleeding or if you’re afraid your jaw might be broken, it’s a good idea to head straight there. Here are some helpful tips for how to handle the following urgent situations:

Knocked Out Tooth

If your tooth has fallen out, Dr. Dougherty may be able to reattach it, but it’s important to keep it moist. If possible, place the tooth back into the socket. If this doesn’t work, store it in a bag of milk or between your cheek and gums and contact us immediately. The sooner Dr. Dougherty can see you, the more likely he’ll be able to reattach it.

Cracked Tooth

If you have a cracked tooth, rinse your mouth with warm water to clean it. Then, use a cold compress on your face to keep the swelling down. Call us to find out what your next step should be.

Missing Crown

If your crown has fallen out or become lose, put it in a safe place and bring it in with you for reattachment. If the tooth that is missing a crown is sensitive, apply clove oil to the area with a cotton swab. This will help dull the pain until you can come see us. Sometimes, a crown can be temporarily reattached with toothpaste or a denture adhesive, but these are not permanent options.

Severe Toothache

If you have a painful toothache, you need to come in and see Dr. Dougherty so he can figure out what is causing it. In the meantime, you can treat the pain with over-the-counter pain medication or an oral pain relief gel, such as Orajel. Also, you can rinse your mouth with warm water and floss to dislodge anything that might be causing your pain.
