Show the World a Beautiful Smile with Porcelain Veneers from Delmarva Sedation Dentistry

92589293Not everyone can be born with the kind of smile a movie star has. Not even a movie star. If your smile could use a little help, then you should consider the treatment that makes Hollywood smiles white, bright and perfectly straight. Porcelain veneers are a cosmetic treatment that can correct a number of dental imperfections. Dr. Edward T. Dougherty, Jr. has used porcelain veneers to give people in and around Ocean City, MD, beautiful smiles and he can do the same for you!

Porcelain veneers are used to conceal and correct many dental flaw including:

  • Stained and discolored teeth that will not respond to teeth whitening
  • Chipped and slightly cracked teeth
  • Teeth that have irregular gaps between them
  • Misaligned and misshaped teeth

Porcelain Veneers and You

Porcelain veneers are made of micro-thin sheets of dental porcelain that Dr. Dougherty designs to be flattering to your smile, your facial features and even your hair color. Using a shade chart, he chooses a porcelain color that most closely matches the color of your existing teeth. In some instances, he may recommend teeth whitening before the porcelain veneer procedure.

The procedure is usually completed in two appointments. At the first, Dr. Dougherty will prep the teeth by removing a thin layer of the teeth’s enamel, so that your new veneers will lay flush with your other teeth. While your custom designed and handcrafted veneers are produced in a cosmetic dental lab, you’ll wear temporary veneers. Then, when yours are ready, you’ll return to Delmarva sedation dentistry to have your porcelain veneers bonded to your teeth. For a perfect smile, Dr. Dougherty will carefully trim and shape each veneer to its most aesthetically pleasing finish.

Dr. Dougherty proudly serves patients throughout the entire Delmarva Peninsula, including Bethany Beach, Selbyville, Rehoboth, Fenwick, Ocean Pines, Salisbury, and Berlin from his West Ocean City dental office.

What Are Your Sedation Dentistry Options?

  • Oral Conscious Sedation: The dentist can prescribe an anti- anxiety medication to be taken the night before or an hour before your appointment begins. Though you will be awake and responsive, you will be completely relaxed and free of apprehension or fear of the procedure.
  • IV Sedation: Delmarva Sedation Dentistry can also offer intravenous sedation as well. IV sedation is much like oral conscious sedation except that the medication is administered intravenously. This allows the sedative to take effect much faster and also gives the dentist more control over the level of sedation. You will be completely relaxed and may even be able to drift off to sleep during the procedure.
  • Nitrous Oxide Sedation: If you prefer a method that will not cause post procedure drowsiness, then nitrous oxide sedation may be your preferred sedation method. With this option, you will gently inhale nitrous oxide through a small mask covering your nose during the procedure. The gas will produce a sedated feeling of euphoria throughout your treatment. However, the effects of the gas will subside completely a few minutes after removing the mask.

Dr. Dougherty Can Replace Missing Teeth with Dental Implants

dental implantMissing teeth can have a huge impact on both the appearance and health of your smile. At Delmarva Sedation Dentistry, we can reverse these signs of smile damage with the help of dental implants or implant-supported dentures.

When you lose a tooth the rest of your teeth are immediately at a higher risk of falling out as well. Also, your remaining teeth will shift around to try and fill the gap in your smile, which could have a serious impact on the way your bite functions. Also, when the tooth is gone so is the tooth root, which helps to anchor the jawbone and increases your risk of bone loss. For all these reasons and more, it’s essential for the health of your smile to replace missing teeth.

Dental implants are a great choice to replace missing teeth. This is a secure tooth replacement method that closely mimics a natural tooth. A titanium post is inserted into your jaw and will bond over time, forming a secure base for the implant. Once this bond has formed, we can then attach your replacement tooth or even dentures to complete your restoration.

We have a variety of ways to replace missing teeth and restore your smile. If you’re interested in dental implants or implant-supported dentures, give us a call today to learn more or schedule your initial consultation.

Root Canals from Dr. Dougherty

root canalIf your tooth is damaged and infected, you may need a root canal from Delmarva Sedation Dentistry to restore it back to health.

Your tooth is covered in a hard outer layer of enamel, protecting the sensitive pulp inside. When this inner part of your tooth becomes infected, you will need a root canal. Since it is tender and there are lots of nerves involved, the infection can be painful and should be treated as soon as possible.

If left untreated, the infection could spread and lead to the loss of your tooth. To treat it, Dr. Dougherty will perform a root canal. He’ll drill into your tooth, clean out the infection, and seal your tooth using a crown to prevent further infections or damage.

Many of our patients think that a root canal is a painful procedure. This is not the case, as usually the most painful part of the whole process is before the procedure. The pain in your tooth is what alerts you to the fact that you need a root canal.

Also, Dr. Dougherty has over 20 years experience at performing root canals. Between this and his sedation dentistry expertise, he will do his best to make your root canal treatment as comfortable as possible.

If you’re interested in learning more about root canals, give us a call at our West Ocean City dental office. Delmarva Sedation Dentistry serves patients from the entire Delmarva Peninsula, including Bethany Beach, Selbyville, Rehoboth, Fenwick, Ocean Pines, Salisbury, and Berlin.

Transform Your Smile and Your quality of Life with Dental Implants

Dr. Dougherty Ocean City dental implantsA missing tooth can be an obstacle in more ways than one. Not only can it affect your self-confidence, it  can also have a serious impact on your overall health. But Dr. Edward Dougherty has a solution that can help you. As a restorative dentist for the Ocean City area, Dr. Dougherty offers dental implants to help patients reclaim their smiles, their confidence, and their health.

A Solution You Can Count On

Of all the restorative options available, the one that most closely mimics a natural tooth is dental implants. That’s because dental implants are made up of not only a crown but an implant, which is placed into the jaw to act as a prosthetic tooth root. After the implant has had time to fuse with the jaw, your new tooth will be affixed, creating a restoration that blends in seamlessly with the rest of your smile.

But what if you’re missing more than one tooth?

That’s not a problem. Dr. Dougherty can use dental implants to address a wide variety of restorative needs. Maybe you need a bridge, a partial, or a full denture. No matter which of these you might need, if you’re a candidate for dental implants, we can help you reclaim your smile.

How can you know if you’re a candidate?

By coming to our Ocean City dental office for a consultation appointment. During this consultation appointment, we can begin gathering all the information we’ll need to determine if dental implants really are the right treatment for you.

Call us today to schedule your appointment. We serve patients from all across the Delmarva Peninsula, including Bethany Beach, Selbyville, Rehobeth, Fenwick, Ocean Pines, Salisbury, and Berlin.
