Premier Sedation Dentist In Ocean City Explains Anxiety Treatments

Filed under: Uncategorized — Edward Dougherty @ 9:45 am

The superior sedation dentist in Ocean City educates you on your options for dental anxiety treatments. Do you avoid dental care because the thought of going in for a visit makes you break out in a cold sweat? Rather than letting your fears and phobias compromise your teeth, it’s much better to seek treatment for dental anxiety than to allow time to create more complex dental problems. But you don’t want just anyone to care for your smile – you want the most respected sedation dentist in Ocean City to keep your pearly whites gleaming, to calm your fears, and to keep you safe. That’s why you should work with Dr. Edward T. Dougherty, Jr. at Delmarva Sedation Dentistry – he’ll make sure you’re relaxed and receive the quality care you deserve. In this post, he explains his sedation options and shows you that you don’t need to be afraid anymore.

What Is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is a safe, effective way to help relax patients during their dental visits. This condition is remarkably common – it affects about 15% of the population. Dr. Dougherty knows there are many patients who are so scared to see the dentist that their teeth become compromised – leading to the need for complex dental procedures. To keep people healthy, we prefer to treat our nervous patients before they actually have other dental problems – aside from their anxiety – to worry about.

What Sedation Dentistry Methods Do You Offer?

At Delmarva Sedation Dentistry, we offer the following sedation options:

  • Inhalation Sedation – Nitrous Oxide or “laughing gas,” is a sweet tasting gas that you’ll receive through an inhaler placed over the nose. Simply breathe in, and let the medication relax you. This is a great method since it takes effect within seconds, and wears of quickly once stopped. You’ll have no “hangover” effect and be able to drive to and from appointments.
  • Oral Sedation – In this method, patients take a small pill by mouth before they come to the office for their appointment, and then another small dose once they arrive. You’ll need to arrange for transportation, and should schedule your appointment in the afternoon – you should relax as the medication wears off throughout the day. You can go back to work or school the next morning with no issue.
  • IV Sedation – With this modality, sedative medications are given to our patients intravenously. You’ll be in a twilight state, but may fall completely asleep, and Dr. Dougherty will monitor your vital signs constantly to keep you secure. Since this method uses general anesthesia, you’ll need someone to drive you to and from your appointment, and to keep an eye on you at home as you recover.

Should I Be Embarrassed That I’m Afraid Of The Dentist?

Not at all! While 1 in 6 people suffer from diagnosed dental anxiety, it is estimated that this condition actually affects up to 75% of patients. Even tough athletes like LeBron James deal with this common malady, so there’s nothing to be ashamed about. With the help of our team, you don’t have to be afraid anymore, and you don’t have to worry about being self-conscious because of your fears.

So get the care you deserve and relax while you’re in our office – schedule your appointment with Delmarva Sedation Dentistry today
