Meet Dr. Edward T. Dougherty Jr.
For over 20 years, Dr. Dougherty has provided full-service dental care without having to refer patients to specialists for each phase of treatment. He’s been studying and practicing general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, restorative dentistry, implant dentistry, and sedation dentistry since the 1990’s.
Dr. Dougherty received his bachelor’s degree in biology from Johns Hopkins University and went on to receive his master’s degree in molecular genetics from the University of Virginia. He was accepted to the Advanced Professional Training Program at Maryland Dental School. Following his academic studies, Dr. Dougherty served on the full-time house staff at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Comprehensive Care unit.
Passionate about his work, Dr. Dougherty takes many hours of continuing education each year. He has earned certificates for implant surgery, prosthetic restoration, bone grafting, sinus augmentation surgery, and premaxilla bone grafting. His extensive studies in sedation dentistry and cosmetic dentistry allow him to create outstanding, natural smiles, while ensuring patients are relaxed and comfortable. Dr. Dougherty is certified in IV and oral sedation and has been practicing sedation techniques for over 15 years. Dr. Dougherty is a also sedation permit examiner for the Maryland Board of Dental Examiners.
As part of his commitment to provide holistic care in all phases of dentistry, Dr. Dougherty regularly volunteers his time and services locally and worldwide. He participates in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry’s Give Back a Smile program for abused women. In 2008, he had the privilege of providing much-needed dental care to citizens of all ages in Belize. In 2009 Dr. Dougherty and his team volunteered with the Remote Access Medical volunteer program in the Appalachian Mountains.
